The Southern Allu Arjun starrer movie has become a rage in the Hindi speaking Gangetic plains. At a release of the trailer in Patna a huge crowd surged to see the hero of the film. This gave the organisers and police a hard time managing the crowds.
Any effort thrives on response and number. Matters like these are ripe for climate commentary.
This is the global south in whose name 1.3 trillion dollars is being asked for. While COP29 also called the Finance COP was underway and struggling there was no such struggle in Patna to get audiences.
Ask any one of those in the huge surging crowd what interest they have in their city air quality, forget climate action? This is the region most underdeveloped on a number of developmental indicators.
Where are the resources to pay for tickets priced at Rs. 1000-2000? How come pre-release the film is able to raise Rs. 500 crores from distributors?
These are the people on whose behalf the climate negotiators and NGOs are talking resilience and adaptation for right?
For entertainment the resources will come from within, for adaptation and resilience the industrialised West should pay?
